musikante

both heaven and earth

Both Heaven and Earth is a deep journey into the heart of family, where invisible bonds and the power of music are intertwined in a story of love, forgiveness and discovery. The narrative revolves around Svante Torre, a man who, after the death of his mother Clara, is forced to face a revelation that shatters his view of the past and pushes him and his brother Gustav down a path that will lead them to come to terms with a hidden part of their family history.
Svante and Gustav, though connected by blood and music, had different experiences, influenced by the places they lived. The Siani's home in Rome, the mansion owned by their grandmother Rosangela, is where the brothers grew up, a refuge full of memories that marked their childhood and youth. The apartment in Via Reno, a corner of Rome that belonged to the Kalervo family, the family of maternal grandfather Lorenzo, is the place where Clara took refuge in late life, the one that represented her deepest heritage and identity, while in Roseto degli Abruzzi, the summer residence of Clara's parents, the passion and love for what until recently would have been improbable, impossible, unattainable germinated in Svante: Jazz.
Tenuta Marisol, situated among the vines and under the protection of Mount Etna, is another place that embodies the history of the Torre family. Given to Grandpa Salvatore by a Spanish nobleman, the Estate is the symbol of an invisible and silent, but powerful bond. It is the home of Gustav and his family, the house that marked the family's destiny, a place where the history of music and the land mingle in a perfect fusion with the narratives of the past.
Finally, Malmö, Svante's adopted city, is the place that offered a new beginning. Far from Rome and Sicily, Malmö became his home, a city that at first seemed cold and distant, but which came to life in the protagonist's heart, enriching his existence with new experiences and a sense of belonging that he had never found before.
But it is not only geography that unites Svante and Gustav: music, which has marked their path since childhood, is the element that really binds them together. Their mother Clara's phrase, “Music will bring you together,” is more than a promise: it is a force that makes itself felt when they least expect it, pushing them to confront the past and reveal secrets that, though hidden for decades, now demand to be heard. Each step, each choice, each encounter, leads Svante to piece together the puzzle of his existence, the melody of forgiveness that only the heart can hear.
Welcome to Both Heaven and Earth, a novel where music, the past and the future intertwine in a harmony that only life can create.
