With “Hearts of the Suburbs”, the Cultural Association Musikante renews its commitment to promoting culture as a tool for social inclusion, presenting the 2026 edition of Creative Expansion, the selected and funded project under the Public Notice “Catania Stage – Beauty Without Borders 2026” promoted by the Municipality of Catania.
Designed with the artistic direction of Antonio Petralia and the coordination of Nino Gullotti, the project was born with the aim of enhancing the neighborhood of San Giovanni Galermo through a multifaceted cultural journey involving schools, families, artists, students, and citizens in a shared experience of growth, participation, and urban regeneration.
The program unfolds along a multidisciplinary path that combines ensemble music workshops, visual arts, creative storytelling, and improvisation, alongside meetings with authors, book presentations, and a concert series designed to foster dialogue between established professionals and young local talents. This project interprets culture as a space for relationships, capable of generating new opportunities for encounters and active participation.
Particular attention is paid to young people and the world of school, protagonists of a creative process that fosters personal expression, teamwork, and the building of an open and inclusive cultural community. Through collaboration with the schools in the neighborhood, Creative Expansion promotes the direct involvement of students in carrying out activities, strengthening the link between education, art, and the local area.
The concert series, planned for November, will feature musicians of national and international renown alongside original productions created specifically for the project, confirming Musikante's commitment to fostering dialogue between artistic research, innovation, and the promotion of new generations.
With “Hearts of the Suburbs”, Musikante consolidates a cultural path initiated years ago that considers music and the arts as concrete tools for social cohesion and territorial development. It's a project that restores centrality to urban peripheries, transforming them into places of creativity, participation, and shared growth, through a cultural proposal capable of leaving a lasting mark on the community.
